Conserving electricity

June 30, 2026 00:00:00

Electricity has become one of the country's most precious resources amid the ongoing fuel crisis and frequent load shedding. Regrettably, a significant amount of electricity is wasted every day due to our negligence. Lights and fans are often left running in empty rooms, air conditioners operate at unnecessarily low temperatures with doors left open, and televisions, computers and other electronic devices remain on standby throughout the night, consuming electricity unnecessarily.

Reducing such waste requires little more than awareness and responsible behaviour. Every unit of electricity saved reduces the consumption of costly imported fuel and eases pressure on the national power grid. Unnecessary wastage not only increases the country's energy costs but also disrupts industrial production, hampers students' studies during power outages, and affects the smooth functioning of essential services, including hospitals.

The government and the power authorities should therefore launch nationwide awareness campaigns through the media and educational institutions to promote energy conservation. Schools and colleges can play an important role by encouraging students to adopt energy-saving habits. At the same time, citizens must also do their part by using electricity wisely.
