The chaos and confusion that passengers face at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) is an experience that can hardly be forgotten. Even receiving any one from the airport has become a nightmare for many.
The number of in and outbound flights has increased manifolds. As a result, the number of passengers has also marked a rise. For the last couple of years, the airport seems to be bursting at its seams. It's time the airport gets expanded.
Late last year, there was a news item that said Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA) signed an agreement with the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) to build a state-of-the-art third air terminal at HSIA. The construction was supposed to start around early 2018. But signs of the ongoing work cannot be seen. Meanwhile, problems at HSIA are multiplying as passenger and cargo flights are increasing with every passing year.
I would like to ask the government to look into this situation. The construction work of the third terminal at HSIA should be initiated without any further delay.
