It is indeed sad to note that no government tries its best to uproot corruption form our society which has been encouraging the unscrupulous people to be more involved in this practice. The government is going to increase the salaries of government employees which is an appreciable move. But it should also step up its vigil so that no government employee can amass illegal wealth. Many government officials are living luxurious lives way beyond their means openly and everyone knows about their corruption. But ironically, the anti corruption commission is not doing anything to curb the rampant corruption.
The government talks about lifting the country to a middle income status by another five years, which seems unrealistic unless corruption is controlled, if not eliminated. With corruption reigning supreme, we cannot come out of the vicious circle of poverty. Corrupt people are moving freely without any fear of being punished. It is a collective shame for all of us. Earning money in a corrupt manner has become normal in our country and it has assumed an epidemic form. Those who are earning money honestly are termed dim-witted and not-so-smart people. If we do not fight against corruption as a society and eradicate it completely, society will be polluted and we shall have no one to blame but ourselves.
