CoU institutional email address for students remains underutilised

May 13, 2024 00:00:00

An institutional email address is typically useful for everything from research endeavour to pursuing scholarships abroad for students. Students gain access to the Google Suite or G Suite applications for free via their university email, which they would otherwise have to pay for. While the free version of Google has limitations that necessitate payment for expanded use, G Suite offers unrestricted access without additional charges, as organisations cover the costs. However, utilising the email addresses provided by Cumilla University (CoU) yields minimal benefits, aside from access to several terabytes on Google Drive.

The university administration has issued student email accounts, but the intended advantages of these institutional email addresses remain unclear. Students are expected to enjoy the benefits of Google services such as Google Drive, Google Meet, Google Classroom, and Google Docs, along with unlimited storage space. These resources are crucial for various academic tasks and are often prerequisites for different employment opportunities. Additionally, students typically expect access to other platforms like Microsoft 365, Microsoft Outlook, Hotmail, Yahoo, as well as student developer resources on platforms like GitHub, Microsoft Azure, Springer, and opportunities for portfolio creation.

Unfortunately, none of these facilities are available to students using Cumilla University's email system. Despite repeated demands from students to solve the issue through various channels, any satisfactory solution is yet to be found. We the students of Cumilla University urge the administration to promptly take necessary steps to enhance students' access to the aforementioned resources through their institutional email accounts.
