Country\\\'s achievement in social progress
November 10, 2014 00:00:00
According to a report published by a Washington-based organization, Bangladesh has fared better than many South Asian nations in the social progress index, which is a great piece of news for us. Bangladesh has done commendably well in reducing child mortality rate, death rate from infectious diseases, human trafficking and child marriage. In respect of sanitation facility, Bangladesh fared better than its neighbour India. But we have a lot more to do. We have to eliminate the prevailing corruption from our society which is eating away the essence of our progress. We shall also have to establish political stability in our country which is at present missing. All political parties should resolve their differences across the table so that the common people do not have to suffer unnecessarily. If we can achieve desired success in these areas, Bangladesh can be a role model for those countries where development is constrained by large population and limited resources. I hope, we learn from our experience and move ahead leaving behind the bitterness and failures of the past.
