Coursing path of reconciliation

February 18, 2015 00:00:00

The common people of our country sincerely want to see the ruling party taking an initiative for the much anticipated dialogue. The 20-party alliance has long been demanding a dialogue. And now our development partners are persistently urging upon us to settle our differences amicably across the table. Unfortunately, nothing of the sort is happening and uncertainty continues. The ruling party appears headstrong in respect of a dialogue, while the opposition is determined not to withdraw its general strikes and blockade.

On paper, we are a democratic country, but we hardly practice democratic values. If we do not practice democracy with its real spirit, we cannot expect long-term peace, harmony and development. Peace and progress cannot be achieved through force and we all must walk towards the path of reconciliation and dialogue.  The ruling party must come on to the path of dialogue, otherwise the common people will blame it for failing in its responsibility to ensure peace and security in the country.
