Bangladesh is one of the countries with the highest rate of unemployed educated youth. Graduates are finding it hard to get a job as the conventional education system does not equip them with the skills the job market demands. According to the European Intelligence Unit statistics, around 47 per cent of graduate students in Bangladesh are currently unemployed. We now have many educational institutions. Still, we are not yet able to ensure jobs for a large portion of our fresh graduates on completion of their campus life. Students are passing examinations but they are not getting their desired jobs because our education system is still theory-based rather than suited to reality. They do not provide students quality education let alone the training needed for the job market. Our education system should rather focus on providing students with entrepreneurial and other job-oriented skills.
When students complete their education, they are expected to enter their professional life. However, when they apply or a job, the prospective employer often asks if they have the required job experience. There are only a few institutions and organisations in the country that hire fresh graduates. Thousands of university graduates are still jobless due to the absence of opportunities. And they are not getting the platform to demonstrate their talent. The authorities concerned should address this issue and do the needful so that our university graduates are provided with adequate employment opportunities.
