Crisis of music

January 20, 2021 00:00:00

Artistes and creative professionals in the entertainment industry in Bangladesh as elsewhere in the world have been struggling for their survival as all their industrial activities have come to a halt. Let's think in a different way: This situation can also be considered an opportune moment to make fresh introspection and come up with more creative outputs. Some of the artistes, we read in media reports, are doing so.

In our country, it's appalling to see that a section of musicians are either copying themes and melodies of songs or making remixes of the old popular songs. Are there no activities and stories of lives in the contemporary world? Those are not being reflected in most of our creative activities. Old is gold but people cannot find reflection of new realities of life and society in music and drama. We need to rethink and focus on what we have and see around us.
