Crisis of pharmacists in gov. health centre

April 29, 2025 00:00:00

In many Upazila Health Complexes, there isn't even a single pharmacist appointed. Even where pharmacists are present, they are often burdened with excessive administrative tasks, rendering them unable to perform their essential duties effectively. Furthermore, most community clinics and union health centers lack any provision for pharmacist appointment, although medicine distribution continues unchecked. This leads to widespread issues such as the delivery of expired drugs, incorrect medication, and improper storage practices.

Despite significant government expenditure on medicine supplies, the absence of qualified pharmacists results in poor resource utilisation, putting public health and safety at serious risk. The current situation is unacceptable and demands urgent intervention. The Directorate General of Health Services and other relevant authorities must take immediate action and ensure the appointment of sufficient pharmacists at all government healthcare facilities.
