Cruelty to animals is very common in our country. I was therefore really surprised and happy when I got the news that three persons were arrested by law enforcing agencies for allegedly torturing animals. We often find brutality to animals on the road and unlike people of the developed world, our people care very little about those. I am sure, if people knew that torturing animals is also a crime according to our law, and there are provisions of specific penalties for such crimes, things would have been different. Many animal rights groups are working for creating a safe environment for animals.
The government can create awareness through social media and television among the common people so that they become sympathetic with the animals and treat them well. We see animals being huddled together in a small space in trucks and vans and transported from one place to another. Obviously, the traders want to carry as many animals as possible in a small space to save money. This is a classic example of cruelty to animals committed almost everywhere in the world. So, we must let everybody know that animals also deserve sympathy and compassion.
And I am sure, awareness among common people will increase further in the coming days and incidents of cruelty to animals will come down drastically.
