CU needs more shuttle trains

The name Chittagong University immediately brings to mind the iconic shuttle train - a symbol of identity and pride for the university. CU is perhaps the only university in the world where such a train remains in regular operation, making it the primary means of transport for thousands of students.
However, this symbol of convenience and unity has unfortunately turned into a source of frustration and suffering for many.
At present, only two shuttle trains serve the vast student population, resulting in severe overcrowding. Students are frequently compelled to travel standing, often jostling for space to their utter discomfort. Mechanical issues have also become alarmingly frequent, yet the university administration appears to have taken no visible or effective measures to address them.
Perhaps the most frightening concern is the regular occurrence of stone-throwing incidents, particularly targeting night shuttle services.
These attacks have escalated recently, leaving students in a constant state of fear for their safety. The presence of unauthorised outsiders aboard the trains further heightens this insecurity.
Moreover, the journey between the university and the city can take over two hours each way, consuming valuable time and severely affecting students' academic and personal lives. Schedule disruptions are also common, causing students to miss classes or appointments.
It is high time the university administration takes this matter seriously.
Increasing the number of shuttle trains, ensuring regular maintenance, improving security, and establishing a strict policy against external intrusion are necessary steps. If action is not taken promptly, what was once a symbol of love and pride may forever be remembered as a tale of neglect and sorrow by the suffering students.
