Curbing Dhaka's street crimes
August 23, 2023 00:00:00
Street crimes in Dhaka city are increasing day by day. Almost every other day, we come to know that a person is hijacked or robbed for money or jewellery. Those carrying out these crimes do so because they are unable to meet even their basic needs. Hence, they would rather commit a crime than die of hunger. Unemployment and drug addiction also contribute to this. It is clear that in the context of the ever-increasing inflation, street crimes and all other kinds of crimes are rising.
It is now up to the law enforcers to draw up an effective strategy to combat these crimes. The issue, however, needs a holistic approach. While we need to work on making the city safe and secure, we also need to address the root causes of these crimes. We hope that the government will take serious steps against these crimes so that people can feel secure to move on the streets.
