Dastardly attack on Hamid Mir

It is shocking news for the world media that the well known Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir was brutally shot by unknown gunmen on his way to his office from Karachi Airport. Pakistan is one of the most unsafe countries in the world for journalism. Although Hamid Mir is out of danger now, this attack is tantamount to aggression against free press in Pakistan. It will only endanger free thinking and freedom of expression of Pakistani people.

Hamid Mir is a renowned Pakistani journalist, news presenter, terrorism expert, and security analyst. He hosts the political talk show Capital Talk on Geo TV and also writes columns for various newspapers. He is well respected in journalism and known to be a fearless voice in the Pakistani media. During his career he has come into conflict with the authorities and has been prohibited from reporting on many occasions but never lost his zeal for truth and peace. I hope Hamid Mir will recover soon and press freedom will truly be established in Pakistan. Democracy and good governance cannot be expected without press freedom. Hamid Mir has proved that the pen is mightier than the sword.
