POLICE recovered body of a university student from Boralu area of the Shitalakhya river in Rupganj upazila, Narayanganj on Monday, January 22, 2018. The ill fated deceased, Parvez Ahmed Joy, 25, was a second year student of Social Welfare Department at Dhaka University who went missing since Sunday night. Local people spotted the body floating on the river and informed the police. Police recovered the body and sent it to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police, quoting family sources, said Parvez was a part-timer at Meghna Shramajibi Samabay Samity in the area. Someone called him over phone at about 8:30pm to hand over Samity's financial statement. Since then, he was missing. His family was solely dependant on his income and was naturally in dire straits after his death.
Questions have arisen again following the death of Parvez about the state of security for citizens of the country vis-à-vis the ability of the law enforcing agencies to protect lives of citizens. We the student community condemn this heinous and cowardly murder and demand an immediate probe into the incident and exemplary punishment for the culprits. We expect justice to prevail.
