A photograph was published on September 2 along with a write-up in a daily on the sad demise of Dr. Eric Baker, a remarkable New Zealander, living in a village in Modhupur, where he provided much needed medical attention to the villagers of the area. Coming to Bangladesh in 1979, he spent the best part of his youth in serving the poor and needy people of Bangladesh as a dedicated physician.
Will some dedicated young doctor take up such a noble venture as did Dr. Baker and dedicate his time and energy to run the Kaliakoir Health Centre, set up by Dr. Baker? Our government should publicly acknowledge the sacrifices of this dedicated physician from New Zealand and give due recognition to his life-long selfless service to the poor and needy. His wish, as reported in the daily and quoted there was: "Many a student gets MBBS degree in the country every year. I'm waiting for one of them to come and take the responsibility to provide treatment to the poor in this area."
Will some dedicated young physician take up the mission of Dr. Baker and fill the much needed void at the Kaliakoir Health Clinic to help the poor and needy?
