Depression from memes

February 14, 2020 00:00:00

More than 40 per cent students have problems with their mental health that affects their academic life, as we know from a campus-based study. Such a situation is often aggravated by teasing by peer groups and also by online bullying. There are comics and writings online that poke fun at distressed students and even some of their companions spread such memes.

Thus, those who are at the receiving end, suffer. While some of the mentally vulnerable students try to hide their weakness by joining laughter created by 'cruel' funs, they themselves at one stage turn anxious and depressed. A university is the place of freethinking and campus needs to be freed from any kind of bullying.
