Depression in adolescents

January 04, 2020 00:00:00

Perhaps an increasing number of young people in Bangladesh are facing depression in their lives. Worldwide, 4.1 per cent people suffer from depression and 4.4 per cent from anxiety disorder. There is no Bangladesh-specific data, but there are symptoms available with families, educational institutions, hospitals and offices that indicate depression among the youth.

People's sufferings from sadness and loneliness or reluctant to work lead to depression. It's also a kind of social stigma that discourages people from sharing it openly. However, depression may emerge as a serious problem in Bangladesh, so the authorities concerned should take preventive measures to keep the young generation healthy and vibrant.
