The admission test result of Rajshahi University shows that only 25 students have passed in English from A unit of Arts Faculty for the current session. The number of admission seekers was 21168 and many of them scored A+ mark in English both in SSC and HSC and also achieved GPA 5. In the last few years' results of SSC and HSC, both GPA 5 scorers and pass rate have increased significantly.
In recent years, less qualified teachers were recruited in primary, secondary and tertiary levels. It is alleged that the ruling party men received huge money for that as they are the influential members and chair of the School Management Committee. Had the government wanted to recruit qualified teachers they could establish Public Service Commission (PSC) for teacher recruitment.
We have observed that there was an epidemic of copying in all the public examinations resulting in deterioration of quality of education. Coaching centres and guide books hinder quality education but both the menaces have been flourishing. We have not seen any tangible steps to stop these.
The government could save a huge amount of money by not disbursing salary among the teachers of the financially solvent schools. The government can also merge schools and colleges having fewer students to adjacent schools and colleges.
All these indicate that the government is not sincere to develop the education sector; rather they are more interested to get public favour by distributing free text books among all the students when almost all have no right to have text books free.
