Dhaka : A new look during Eid holidays

July 21, 2015 00:00:00

There are many in Dhaka, who can afford celebrating Eid abroad. But for me Dhaka is the most exciting place during the Eid holidays as we see no traffic congestion, no load shedding or water shortage. The crowd that throng the streets and markets of the city suddenly disappear and we discover a new Dhaka altogether. The roads are almost empty and the traffic personnel heave a sigh of relief, although temporarily. People move around in a mood of celebration. Only negative aspect is that we feel a bit insecure when it is late at night and we have to come back home before midnight. As I stay in Dhaka during the Eid holidays I can enjoy the new ambiance of our city in full blow. Dhaka is a city of nearly 16 million people and I think more than half the population leave the city to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones. As for myself, I look forward to Eid holidays eagerly. The people who have their own transports enjoy Dhaka more during the Eid holidays than any other time of the year. Eid holidays come to an end and the city gets back its old familiar look again.
