DHAKA International Trade Fair (DITF), organised by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), is an annual event that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors from across the country. Apart from being a major attraction for the entertainment hungry people, it has also opened new avenues of investment for the business community. Various organisations, both local and foreign, are seen showcasing their products to accelerate their business volumes. There are country specific foreign sections at the fair, which has nearly seven hundred mini-stalls, general stalls, premium stalls, mini-pavilions and mega-pavilions. Local and foreign products are showcased at the fair.
Various food stalls offer local and foreign items to customers wishing to take a break from walking around. The visitors are drawn to the numerous attractive discounts, special offers, introductory prices, gifts and lotteries of DITF. A shopping spree begins from day one and gathers momentum from the middle of January. The last seven days see hectic buying with huge crowds during holidays and especially during weekends.
People start for the DITF braving the chilling cold and look for newer items as well as items of essential necessities. Authorities are only requested to ensure security during the fair so that people get more opportunities to visit the fair more frequently. Since it happens once in a year, asking for a little more safety and security will not be too much to expect for the people. Mohammed Sohel Hara
