Dhaka is now the worst livable city

Dhaka has topped the list of most unlivable city of the world, according to a global study by the Economist Intelligence Unit, and we can hardly deny the truth. Last year we ranked the second. Although Dhaka has been divided into two city corporations, we are yet to see its good effect on the city. On a scale of 100, Dhaka has got merely 38.7 points, the lowest among major cities in the world. Dhaka has a very big population compared to its land area. We see people are teeming in Dhaka. If proper steps are not taken to make the city livable, the future is bleak. Experts have already stressed on the necessity of decentralisation of administration so that the pressure on the city is eased. They have also opined that only decentralisation can help to ease many of the existing problems of Dhaka. It may pave the way for overall and balanced development of the country and reduce the growing pressure of population on the capital city. We must take a long-term plan to solve this problem. I hope the government will take urgent steps so that our city becomes better and livable for our future generations.
