Dialogue is the only way to restore peace
February 20, 2015 00:00:00
It is already too well known that there is a mounting pressure on the government to hold dialogue with the 20-party alliance to resolve the current political crisis. The government has so far rejected the offer and so the unrest continues. Small and medium and big business houses are incurring huge loss every day due to political unrest, blockade and strike. If urgent steps are not taken to stop the unrest, many businesses may be shut down soon and thousands of people will be out of their jobs. The readymade garment sector is already badly affected, as the RMG factories are not being able to import raw materials or export their products. Many of them run the risk of being out of business if the present situation is prolonged further. Farmers are also counting losses, as they cannot sell their produce with very few or no buyer around. The transport owners are not ready to take livestock from one place to another and ask for exorbitant prices. Prices of meat have already gone up. Beef price has gone up to Tk 350 per kg from Tk.290 recently and it may go further up.
We, the common people of the country, strongly feel that the ongoing unrest must be stopped forthwith. The ruling party, in this respect should first come forward and call the agitating parties to a meeting in order to resolve the crisis and restore peace and order in society.
