Corruption in Bangladesh has been a nagging issue since the liberation of this country. Transparency International's 2017 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) has ranked Bangladesh at 143, out of 180 countries. Fortunately, this is a two-point improvement from the 2016 CPI where Bangladesh was ranked at 145.
There are allegations that people still have to pay bribes to get their work done in some government departments. This is why, most people are afraid to go to such government offices. I hope the government will digitise all public offices. This will reduce paperwork and chance of corruption in these departments. Fortunately, the government has already initiated such steps for a number of public departments. It can be hoped that eventually all public offices would become digital.
