Dilapidated condition of old Dhaka schools

Many school buildings of old Dhaka are in a dilapidated condition and the students are attending classes with a great risk. One wonders if schools in Dhaka city itself are in a state as they are in, situation of schools outside the metropolis can better be imagined than described. It is reported that roofs of many school buildings have large cracks and a little bit of rain disrupts academic and other activities of those schools. Moreover, there is a high risk of casualty in case of earthquakes and the students, parents and teachers live in constant fear and apprehension.

Education is a basic right of a citizen and it is not a luxury. Most of the schools of old Dhaka have no playground so students have no facility for sports and they can not have the much-needed physical activities. I hope the government will gradually repair those schools which are in bad shape. The education sector should be allocated higher budget so that today's students can become worthy citizens in course of time. Only education can free us from poverty, corruption and backwardness. All our school buildings should be well maintained not only to make academic activities smooth and uninterrupted, but also to protect the students and teachers from any untoward incident.
