Dilapidated roads
August 23, 2014 00:00:00
Some of the roads in Dhaka city are totally unusable and every day those are causing immense sufferings to the commuters. I regularly commute through Mouchak Market and Moghbazar roads and have found two roads extremely difficult to pass.
All the time, I find a huge traffic gridlock there. The roads are almost 90 per cent broken and the potholes and construction holes are terribly big. The shopkeepers are lamenting a fall in business since no customers want to pass along the rundown footpaths beside the worn-out roads. I know a huge work on flyovers is in progress in the area but that should not be an excuse for keeping such important roads in such a dilapidated state for long.
Local people and shopkeepers should bring the poor state of their roads to the notice of the authorities through an effective way. Now we are passing the monsoon, and every day we witness a lot of rain-related road accidents. The vehicles which ply these roads lose their longevity.
I would like to urge the authorities concerned to take some remedial steps and urgently repair those roads, so that the sufferings of the commuters and other people are reduced.
