Disciplining drivers

October 20, 2014 00:00:00

Road accidents are rising alarmingly in the country. The victims are not only ordinary people who are unaware of traffic rules; the dead also include renowned personalities like minister, poets, film and TV stars, top ranking bureaucrats. A recent report quoting the Accident Research Institute of the BUET revealed that 3,137 people die on an average every year from road accident. I believe the actual figure will be higher.

Various reasons are cited as the causes of accidents. But in my opinion, reckless driving is the main cause of fatal road accidents. Bus drivers are arrogant and rough, and because of lack of education they lack the minimum common sense. Once on the driving seat, they think they are the lord. They misbehave or even maltreat the protesting passengers. So first of all, the drivers must have to be disciplined properly to curtail road accidents.
