Doctors make good leaders

UNLIKE many other sectors the health care sector of the country will never face leadership crisis as doctors make capable leaders. They have the inherent attributes of leadership as they successfully guide us to recovery from ailment, from pains to peace. The long standing perceptions on leadership may need to be changed for physicians who combined with other health care professionals form a team to relieve us of our physical and mental ailments.

Physicians, who play the lead role within the periphery of healthcare, must adapt themselves to fast changing technologies and adapt themselves to changed circumstances. They must strike a balance between changing technologies and existing realities to effectively face the challenges of time. When I think of a physician, I imagine a person of intelligence, self-confidence and integrity - all the attributes that fall under the trait approach of leadership. This helps form a perception that doctors would naturally make good leaders.
