Donating blood for thalassemia patients

March 23, 2015 00:00:00

A few days ago I was requested over phone by a voluntary blood transfusion organization called Quantum Lab, for donating blood for ailing patients. I am a regular donor and informed the caller that I would be at their office in the evening. I went in the evening and placed my donation card and was requested to wait in the waiting room.

I waited in the waiting room along with other donors and patients. Suddenly I noticed that a child was called by a volunteer to place his blood sample. Out of curiosity I asked the person who accompanied the child to the lab about the child's problem. The man told me that the boy was a thalassemia  patient who required blood every month for survival. I was dismayed to learn the news. The boy was only 7 years old. However it was heartening to know that the lab was offering blood for poor thalasamia patients free of cost. I  thanked the Almighty that my blood was going to be used for thalassemia patients. My eyes were blurred with tears when I looked at other child thalasemia patients who had been going through the painful exercise of blood transfusion every month and my heart was filled with gratitude for the organisation for its noble venture. Let us donate blood for the thalassemia patients to enable them to live a normal life like you or me.
