Earth climate summit

December 21, 2014 00:00:00

It is not raining for about two months, but the surface drains, household waste water disposal pits, manholes etc., are full of dirty water coming out of the households. DCC or Dhaka WASA or whoever is responsible for the matter seems to be unconcerned. It appears that Dhaka is sinking otherwise as the waste water is not flowing into adjoining canals, rivers etc.  Bangladesh ha been represented at the recent climate change global meet held at Lima, the capital of Peru. As a resident and tax payer of Dhaka metropolis, I can genuinely demand that a long term measure should be taken to solve the problem of waste water stagnancy in metro Dhaka.

Thankfully, the situation in New Eskaton where I live, is better compared to many other localities of Dhaka. In the Peru summit, reference was made to disasters ravaged by AILA and SIDR and how Bangladesh fought against such natural calamities. Unfortunately, seven years have passed, but people of the affected areas are still living on raised embankments or leading a sub-human life. The Peru summit praised our success. It is true, enough relief operations were undertaken, but I think, there is still a lot to be done.  However, coming back to the problem of water logging in Dhaka, the authorities concerned should attach top priority to the issue and pull Dhaka out of the chronic problem.
