Education in post-Covid world

November 26, 2021 00:00:00

We are facing an education crisis. Although our children are back to their in-person classes after more than a year, they have become more habituated to the virtual world with excessive use of laptops and mobile phones. Online games and social media apps have started working as addictions. Especially if family members do not look after their children and limit the use of laptops and phones, children become glued to their gadgets.

Consequently, students are no longer interested in any physical sports and have lost interest in reading and learning. Most students prefer spending their spare time on different social media platforms. Naturally, this has had a detrimental impact on their development and knowledge because they are now performing poorly during examinations. Students now have shorter attention spans because the virtual world offers many things at once.

Students cannot keep up with the pace of physical classes because online education did not do justice to learning. They were promoted without being provided with sufficient knowledge so that schools could justify the expensive rates of fees. Many students are now facing difficulty in their studies and will be required to put in more effort than usual. It is important that teachers and parents guide and support students to keep pace with their levels of learning.
