Effective date of implementing new pay scale
December 23, 2014 00:00:00
Submission of the Pay Commission Report to the Finance Minister on December 21, 2014 was an auspicious occasion for the government employees. Judging from purchasing power point of view, the government employees are indeed underpaid at present. It is difficult for an honest government servant to retain some savings after meeting family expenses, so that he/she can live a decent life after retirement.
Most of them are in difficulty even to pay educational expenses of their children after they retire. The recommendations of the Pay Commission have brought hope of a better life for them. Before formation of the latest Pay Commission, the Prime Minister declared that the recommendations of the Commission would be effective from July 01, 2014. The Finance Minister later said that it would be effective from January 01, 2015. On receiving the Pay Commission Report on December 21, the Finance Minister announced that it would be effective from July 01, 2015 and the government has no problem in disbursing the higher pay.
Shifting of the effective date by one year from the date declared by the Prime Minister has frustrated the employees of the republic. I like to urge the government to set the effective date of the new scale on July 01, 2014 so that 14 million government employees can have a better working life as well as a peaceful life after retirement.
