Effectively implementing education budget

June 12, 2022 00:00:00

The world has not yet recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic fallout. On top of that the impact of ongoing Russia-Ukraine war has made the prices of essentials such as rice, wheat, maize, edible oil, lentils, sugar etc has skyrocketed. In such a global and domestic context, the finance minister of Bangladesh placed the national budget for 2022-23 fiscal year in parliament on Thursday.

What we appreciate most in the proposed national budget is that the government has decided to increase allocation in the education sector. Now we expect the government will also be serious in implementing the budget in right places so that our education sector can make up for the losses during the Covid-19 pandemic.

If that happens, it would help contain possible dropouts in schools, which may subsequently cause a rise in child marriage, early pregnancy, and child labour. We also hope that the government will focus on the projects, which can help students get quality teaching, modern amenities including laboratories, libraries, internet and more at their educational institutions.
