Eid and poor road condition

Eid-ul-Azha is just round the corner and many families have already started preparations for their trips to village homes to celebrate Eid with near and dear ones. I am also one of them, but the road leading to my village home is still in a dilapidated shape as it was during Eid-ul-Fitr days. According to my experience, the roads and highways department only wakes up just before the Eid holidays when there is not enough time to repair the roads. The standard of road repair work is also questionable. We find that within six months the repaired roads get back to their earlier shape or even worse. Some roads are in such a bad shape that they could easily be compared to the surface of Mars.  In the capital city itself, we many roads are in shambles and no one seems to care about it. I sometimes wonder if the condition of roads in Dhaka is so bad, the condition of roads outside Dhaka can better be imagined than described. The roads repair works are often awarded to the ruling party people who do not do their jobs properly and a section of dishonest government officials are also involved. The corruption in this sector has assumed epidemic proportions and it is high time the government took stern action against the offenders so that roads and highways remain in a good shape throughout the year.
