The Ekushey Book Fair has secured a very special place in the heart of Bangladeshi people. Everyone, including old and young, waits enthusiastically for this book fair. Although we are not known as ardent book readers, the reading habit has been alarmingly declining in our society due to the rapid advent of technologies like TV, computer, internet, VDO game and smartphone. Ekushey Book Fair surely reignites our interests in book reading.
Reading is a good habit and it must be cultivated from young age. Parents should encourage their children to read various kinds of books according to the children's interest. Readers have more advantages than non-readers. Reading is an active mental process. Unlike televisions, books help us to use our brains. We can think more, become smarter and sharper by reading good books. It also gives us glimpses of other cultures where we never have been. I hope the Ekushey Book Fair will help us to create an enlightened society.
