Enjoy knowing the earth!

If the earth's history of 4,600 million years could be compressed into a one-year calendar, the pre-Cambrian period would last from January 1 until mid-Nov. At the other end, the quaternary period would occupy only the last four hours on New Year's Eve.
As per the above imaginary calendar, abundant life did not exist until 45 days ago in our imaginary one year (equivalent to 4.6 billion years) calendar. The first fish, mammals, birds,, reptiles, etc. appeared between 41 and 9 days ago. Dinosaurs lived and died out completely about 17 to 5 days ago, and recognizable humans appeared on earth only within the last eight hours. Columbus discovered America during this fictitious year about three seconds ago. Who knows, the Earth may disintegrate in the same way it was formed 4.6 billion years ago?
The age of the moon and meteorites (disrupted planet or fragments) is the same as the age of the earth, i.e., 4.6 billion years.
The above are a few of the many important extracts from my notes taken from the many books on earth science available in the New York city Libraries.I am glad to know that one recipient living in Canada have forwarded it to his daughter and others.
Enjoy knowing the earth! The earth is changing everyday and changes are so slow that they are seldom noticeable within several generations. The magnitude of the universe and its formation and movement are unique and beyond our wildest imagination.
