Ensuring security of minorities

The High Court has very rightly and dicisively directed the government to ensure security of the minorities as published in The Financial Express on January 16. This ugly and hateful communal attitude is being spread by the criminals of several political parties. The main opposition BNP is also responsible and cannot avoid its moral responsibilities from such ugly and immoral acts. The government must stop this vile tendency and harshly punish the culprits so that communal tendencies can never raise its ugly head in Bangladesh.

The current parliament should pass a strict law so that the perpetrators of communal violence are severely punished and if needed, the land and properties of the culprits or their parents and guardians may be confiscated by the state. Necessary amendment may be incorporated in the constitution of the country to ensure the safety of the minorities if needed. People committing such inhuman crimes are actually no better than vipers and ferocious wild animals that attack without provocation.

All law-abiding citizens of the country will obviously appreciate and approve all such measures adopted to ensure the safety of life, honour and properties of the minority communities. The recent case of rape against Dalit Community women is a shameful incident and no civilised society can be proud of it. This matter should be of the topmost priority with our lawmakers in  parliament.
