We are indeed happy to learn that the Jahangirnagar University authority has expelled three female students for abusing a fresher in the name of ragging. I believe it is an exemplary punishment and other public universities should follow suit. In the name of ragging physical and mental torture on freshers cannot be accepted. The victim took the right decision by lodging a complaint. In most cases, victims do not dare complain against the offenders. This encourages the wrong doers to commit further crimes. The tradition of ragging should be discarded.
We hope the punishment of JU students will discourage students of other universities from ragging their juniors. Many reputed universities in India have banned ragging on their campus as many times the innocuous incidents turn ugly and students are seriously injured.
