Exploring livestock potential
August 28, 2023 00:00:00
Bangladesh was once highly dependent on Indian cattle. But now, we are almost self-reliant in meeting our own demand. Even millions of cattle are slaughtered across the country during Eid-ul-Azha. A recent survey of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics has found that the number of cattle and goats has increased manifold in the past several years. However, many of our livestock farmers still lack knowledge of modern practices.
The livestock sector can create new opportunities for farmers. This can be a potential sector for the country, if our government starts paying due attention to farms. To increase our livestock productivity, the government needs to develop ways to enhance rural infrastructures such as roads to improve the efficiency of production and transportation.
