Failure to rein in corruption
December 12, 2014 00:00:00
The world observed international anti-corruption day and we also joined the party. Corruption has become an order of the day. We see it everywhere in our country and we see no light at the end of the tunnel which is quite depressing. We observe the day but have not taken any concrete steps to reduce corruption. People who matter have a tendency of overlooking it which is making the situation worse.
If we can make the ACC a strong institution, only then can we expect to see the graph of corruption going down. Due to prevailing corruption, poor people remain poor and it becomes difficult for them to come out of abject poverty. Widespread corruption affects our social values also. It is high time we started a fight against corruption and then only shall we be able to gradually establish a country we have been dreaming of since its inception. We must not forget that corruption is an enemy of good governance and development.
