First bone-marrow transplant in Bangladesh
March 13, 2014 00:00:00
Bone-marrow transplant is a modern treatment of blood cancer. Previously people suffering from blood cancer used to go abroad for treatment spending Tk 5.0 to 10 million. Now, our doctors at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) have successfully transplanted bone-marrow of a patient. It has opened a new era of medical opportunities in Bangladesh.
If the operation is successful, a patient may get the treatment at Tk 1.0 to 1.5 million. However, it would be challenging since the manpower trained in this field would often need further training at home and abroad. The government should give all-out help to this risky and costly treatment.
