BAGHDAD, June 29 (AFP): Insurgents killed five US soldiers and wounded seven more in an ambush in which they detonated a roadside bomb and opened fire on a patrol in Baghdad, the US military reported Friday.
The attack took place in southern Baghdad Thursday. One of the wounded soldiers has already returned to duty but six more are still receiving treatment, the military added.
The latest fatalities took the military's losses in Iraq to 82 in this month alone and to 3,559 since the March 2003 invasion of the country by US-led forces, according to the news agency count based on Pentagon figures.
