Flood, landslides kill four, displace dozens in Nepal

KATHMANDU, June 30 (XINHUA): At least four people were killed, dozens of others were displaced and property worth millions of Nepali rupees was damaged due to the floods and landslide triggered by incessant rains at several places in Nepal within past two days, local newspaper The Kathmandu Post reported Monday.

Purna Bahadur BK and Rudri Pun of in Salyan district, some 320 km west of Nepali capital Kathmandu, were killed and another sustained injuries when a landslide buried a local watermill Saturday, police said.

In Jajarkot district, some 325 km west of Kathmandu, the flood swept away Jayakali Pun Saturday evening. Her body was recovered Sunday morning, police said. Likewise, Jhabinda Kunwar of Gulmi district, some 205 km west of Kathmandu, drowned while she attempted to cross the swelling Panaha stream on Sunday.

In Nawalparasi, some 160 km west of Kathmandu, eight families were displaced because of a landslide. Local Bam Bahadur Saru saidthose displaced had been taking refuge in their neighbors' houses for the time being.
