Free press curtails corruption

Bangladesh is a country of unlimited potential but unfortunately due to excessive corruption we cannot achieve desired success. A free Press is necessary to curb the graph of corruption as freedom of press establishes transparency in a society. Freedom of press may not be favourable to corrupt people. The newly formulated broadcast policy will impede the freedom of the press and at the same time it will encourage the corrupt. The press, if strangulated, will not be able to report freely on misdeeds and corruption fearing backlash from the government.
Bangladesh continuously saw itself at the top of the chart of the most corrupt countries. The scrutiny by the media and measures taken by the government helped improve the situation. But with the freedom of the press being curtailed, we find remote possibilities of eradication of corruption and irregularities from society in the coming days. It looks the government does not want misdeeds of their people to be disclosed by the media which might have prompted them to stifle the voice of the press. We have seen such tendency in the past which only made the ruling party more unpopular and detached from the common men. It is said that a free Press is the eyes and ears of the government; but the government think if it closes its ears and eyes then nothing bad will take place. But it will not bring any good for them.
