Free WiFi hotspots: A good initiative

February 27, 2014 00:00:00

The government is planning to set up 100, 000 WiFi hotspots all over the country. The initiative will encourage our young generation to be more internet savvy. Although the Ministry of Information and Technology has not disclosed the time frame, we believe they will execute their plan very soon. Computer and internet has drastically changed our life and those have become integral parts of our everyday life.

I complete most of my office work on my Smartphone and internet. It saves a lot of my time which I can use for some other works. We have a lot of idle bandwidth and the government is planning to sell off excess bandwidth to our neighbouring country. Internet has made the world a global village. We can communicate with every corner of the world with a blink of an eye which even a decade ago was unbelievable.

At present, Information Technology (IT) is a subject of widespread interest in Bangladesh. The government has already declared IT as a thrust sector and it has huge potential like the readymade garments sector. Many public universities already has have Wifi network. I hope an all out effort will be taken so that IT can truly flourish in our country and take us to the next level of prosperity and success.
