Frequent strikes of doctors

May 13, 2014 00:00:00

Recently, frequent strikes being enforced by doctors have made us deeply worried about the problem. I went to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on May 6 for treatment of my cousin during strike called by the DMCH doctors. As my cousin was not very sick, we observed the scene for a while. The wailing of critical patients outside the DMCH emergency unit created a pathetic situation but the strike enforcers were deaf.

The Dhaka University is a centre of excellent education in Bangladesh and the DMCH, as a renowned medical hospital, has a responsibility to our nation. But sadly, image of the Bangalee nation has been tarnished by this type of incidents of the DU students and the DMCH doctors. Though doctors take oath to serve people in distress at any cost, why should they stop their services in emergency unit for a long time? Cries of critical patients failed to move the cruel doctors.

We need to keep in mind that the DMCH is run by the government spending taxes given by the general people. It's the sole duty of doctors to serve the patients at any cost. The administration is also callous to these incidents. It's urgent to take proper measures, including enforcement of the rules. If the authority fails to take immediate action to prevent these incidents, these incidents will be repeated frequently and do harm to our society.
