Adabor area of Dhaka has been experiencing acute gas shortage for the past few years especially during the day. Almost daily, the gas supply begins to decrease around 8:00am and reaches its lowest point around 12:00pm. The gas supply becomes normal around 3:00pm in the afternoon. As such, households cannot cook food properly during peak hours. Some households are forced to buy gas in cylinders despite paying their gas bills monthly. Similar crisis has struck Shyamoli, Mirpur, Pallabi, Dhanmondi, Nikunja, Uttara, Badda and some parts of Old Dhaka as well.
Some officials of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company have pointed finger at the illegal connections. But, the Consumers Association of Bangladesh has recently said that the shortage has been artificially created to promote business of liquefied petroleum gas cylinders. It would be very helpful for the residents of these areas of Dhaka city if Titas and other related government departments could identify the real reasons behind the problem and resolve the matter as soon as possible.
