It is good to see that the law enforcers are taking tough actions against those pedestrians who violate rules and do not use foot over-bridges and cross the road haphazardly creating serious hindrances to traffic movement. The media have extensively covered the news of the law enforcing agency fining the jaywalkers. I am sure stern action against the jaywalkers will not only make the lives of the pedestrians safe but will also bring down the number of accidents significantly.
We have to compel people to obey law, otherwise the law will remain in books only and will not be honoured. I see many of the over-bridges are dirty and used by the drug addicts. The Dhaka city corporations should make it clean and usable so that the pedestrians can use it without hesitation. I am glad that gradually a positive change is coming to our traffic scene. The common people are supporting this action, as they think that only implementing the law can bring change in the present situation which is very chaotic to say the least. I hope, the traffic authority will soon be able to clear footpaths which are occupied by hawkers who have made it difficult for pedestrians to walk safely
