Goodbye Soumitra Chatterjee!
November 17, 2020 00:00:00
A powerful actor of Bangla movie, Soumitra Chatterjee, is no more. With his passing, the Indian cinema has lost one of its legends. Film enthusiasts of several generations will remember him for his portrayals sometimes as Apu, sometimes as Feluda, Amal for 'Charulata' or even as Biswanath Majumdar of 'BelaSeshe'.
The 85-year-old actor, who lost the battle against Covid-19, is well regarded for his collaborations with the legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray and memorable performances in Ray's masterpieces. He left behind an illustrious legacy of work. While the world grew up with Sherlock Holmes, many of us grew up with Feluda. His characterisation of Amit Roy in Rabindranath Tagore's novel Shesher Kobita influenced a whole generation.
Our love for old Bangla movies is immerse, and they are incomplete without Soumitra. His demise has undoubtedly ended an era with no one in sight to fill the void. We will miss him dearly. But, he will surely live on through his work for eternity.
