Government should respect dissident voice

Recently, many international human rights groups have urged the global community to put pressure on Bangladesh government to end the harassment of and threats to Odhikar, a rights organisation. The highhanded attitude of the ruling party has been gradually alienating our country from the international community. The ruling party should respect dissident voices.

The present government has shown zero tolerance towards media which propagate different views than its own. It has declined its popularity. When different voices are suppressed by brutal force, more rumors spread and ultimately become more harmful to the government. We live in the age of information technology and no one can suppress or modify information for a long time. Truth will obviously come out.

When any party try to force the common people to have one-sided views, it is out-and-out rejected. So, instead of trying to suffocate media, the ruling party should try to broadcast its views and keep faith in the discretion of the people.
