Government will not gain from broadcast policy

August 15, 2014 00:00:00

The main opposition party, the BNP, has announced its political programme and it seems it wants to build up a momentum gradually. The ruling party has already   given an opportunity to its rival in the name of a broadcast policy and it is likely to work in favour of the BNP. Now the BNP blames the government for its attempt to gag free media. It appears the whole issue of broadcast policy is likely to work against the ruling party. The ultimate result of controlling media is never good. The ruling party has a loyal media group through which it can express its views but trying to curtail the freedom of the press and media will do more harm than good.

As regards the movement of the BNP-led opposition parties, we hope the opposition will conduct its political programme peacefully so that the life of the common people is not disturbed. The government should give enough space to the opposition so that the latter can express its grievances openly and peacefully.
